Liza Rutledge is working as a Marketing Intern at Foreign Translations, Inc. She attends University of South Carolina and will be a sophomore this year. At USC, Liza is enrolled in the faculty of International Business with a minor in Chinese. She lived in China with her family during 9thgrade for a year. She notes that at first it was a huge culture shock, but looking back at it now, she appreciates how it guided her to minor in Chinese. She hopes to study abroad next summer in Europe and spend a semester of her junior year in Shanghai.

Liza is constantly involved with groups and clubs located on campus. She learned scuba when she was in Thailand and enjoyed it so much that when she returned to the U.S. she earned certification and joined the campus scuba club. She also is a member of the school’s Chinese club. The Chinese club goes to elementary schools and teaches Chinese characters along with Chinese songs.

Liza is the second oldest child in her family, which includes her mom, dad, two younger siblings, and an older half brother. She has a cat named Bella and a dog name Joey. When asked why she named the dog Joey she said because the dog acts kind of dopey, like Joey from the TV show Friends.

In her free time she enjoys websites such as Stumbleupon, Facebook, and online shopping. She also enjoys reading and is currently enjoying the second part of the seventh Harry Potter book as well as the autobiographical novel, Eat, Pray, Love. On weekends she goes to the Handlebar for swing dancing and is learning the Lindy Hop. She loves the great outdoors and goes hiking and backpacking in Mt. Mitchell with her family.

When asked about her time with Foreign Translations, Inc., Liza stated that she has learned much about marketing through today’s technologies. “I have obtained a great deal of experience in writing newsletters, and applying keywords to the newsletters to help target to our audience through SEO’s.” She also said that she really enjoyed working with all the different interns withdifferent backgrounds and experiences.
